Introduction

My name is Char (they/he), and I founded Space For Your Mind to create a queer and neurodivergent friendly space for members of our community who struggle to let things go.

I first entered the cleaning and organising industry after my mum died in 2022, and I was left as the executor of her estate. As I was sorting through generations of sentimental memories, I started to closely consider the human relationship to collecting, consumption, and waste. Why do we hold on to things? What compels us to buy things we don’t need?

Add this to my lifelong interest in hoarding disorder, and you have the foundation of my business. I am here to help people confront their relationship with their belongings, reshape their living spaces, and help to make sense of their habits in the context of mental health. I don’t provide a quick fix, instead I work with you to change your perspective on your belongings, reassess what you need, and implement solutions and strategies that last.

I am specifically here to help the queer and neurodivergent community - I have noticed there is a big gap when it comes to organising and cleaning services for us. I am a trans and autistic individual myself and my solutions come from lived experience. My services are accessible for everybody, regardless of gender, background, or age. This is a safe space and you can be happy in the knowledge that you will be listened to and respected at every point in the process.

Everything you need to know

I travel to most of Melbourne's inner suburbs and the Mornington Peninsula. Travel outside my service area will certainly be considered for the right job, and a travel fee will be included in your quote. Please include your suburb in your enquiry so that I can let you know.

Usually, I am booked 4-6 weeks in advance – I am a sole trader, so things fill up fast! If you need an urgent appointment, let me know in your enquiry and I will do my best to fit you in. Keep an eye on the Instagram page for any last minute appointments!

The price of a service depends on many factors – the type of work, the size of your home, the level of clutter, and your capacity to work with me and make decisions on items to name just a few. The scope of work will be determined during our initial discussion and you will be provided a quote of labour and cost from there. A deposit will be required to secure the booking, with the remaining balance payable on the day of the service. You will be emailed a full list of terms and conditions to read before you book, so there are no surprises!

Regular domestic cleaning is not a part of my service – my intention is to get to set up with a baseline, clean, organised home ready for those ongoing supports to come on board.

For deep cleaning and hands-off organising, no – I actually encourage you to step out for those services as it can be a little overwhelming and loud at times, but you are welcome to stay somewhere comfortable if you'd prefer. For decluttering bookings, you must be home and present – I cannot make decisions without your consent, and in order to understand and continue the process you need to be involved in it.

A kind and gentle approach that goes a long way

I couldn’t recommend Char highly enough for all your de-cluttering/deep cleaning needs! They kindly and gently helped me let go of years-old clutter that was too overwhelming to sort through on my own, with just the right amount of low-pressure encouragement. Life changing!!!!!

This is a life changing service delivered by a truly empathetic, supportive and warm person. The relief I felt as a result of being able to let go of items that were long term emotional and physical burdens to me was huge. The best cleaning & organising experience!

My apartment has been somewhat neglected for several months while I've been experiencing burnout and a dip in my mental health. After a day's work, Char has transformed it into a clean and organised space where I can truly relax. Their compassionate, non-judgmental approach made me feel at ease and completely took away the shame I'd been feeling. My timid cat (who normally runs away from strangers) also came up to Char and accepted pats, which is a huge green flag!!
